New chef for Isle of Wight venue

Tourists on Isle of Wight holidays may wish to head to the Ventnor Botanic Garden cafe for a meal after it was revealed a new chef is taking over the kitchen at the venue.

Owner of the local John Curtis confirmed Martyn Cutler is set to take over the reins at the cafe, which is a popular spot for both locals and those visiting the island.

Ingredients picked on the Isle of Wight each morning are set to be at the heart of the menu created by Mr Cutler, according to a report by the Isle of Wight County Press.

"Beetroot and chocolate cake, cherry salad or sunflower and strawberry bread are a few of my recent creations," the chef was quoted as saying by the news provider.

Ventnor Botanic Garden cafe may therefore be set to become one of the top places to go on the island for those on Isle of Wight holidays this summer.

Mr Curtis - director of Community Interest Company that now runs the Botanic Garden - stated Mr Cutler will receive support in the kitchen from a great team trained by the Royal Hotel in Ventnor.

"We are delighted to have him, his creativity and his approach to sustainability," he told the newspaper, while the chef also revealed his plans to introduce hampers in order to encourage picnics in the New Zealand and Mediterranean Gardens at the location, as well as  in the meadow that boasts views over the English Channel.

Jonyth Hill, of the VBG Friends Society, added the plans for the sustainability of the cafe hark back to the days when there was a hospital based on the site and much of the food for the 160 patients was grown there.

The Garden cafe serves hot lunches from 12:00 BST to 14:30 BST, subject to availability.
