Isle of Wight restaurant offers 'delicious food at modest prices'

A positive review for Barefoot on the Beach in Colwell could lead to the restaurant becoming more popular among those on Isle of Wight holidays.

The cafe, which is transformed into a bar and bistro in the evenings, is hidden down the promenade at Colwell and was recommended by Matt and Cat of the Isle of Wight Eating Out Guide.

Service at the eatery was particularly highlighted by the couple, who were impressed at how promptly they were presented with the bill at the end of the meal, noting it was in sharp contrast to many restaurants where it can take a while to attract the attention of the serving staff.

But the location was also praised by the couple, although they commented it could have been lit more brightly, as it was dim.

"Matt's starter, French onion soup, faithfully interpreted a classic. A very generous bowl of rich, oniony broth was topped with a cheesy baguette slice. Matt loved it - a great start to the meal," the pair wrote, while Cat was also similarly impressed with her selection of home-marinaded olives with garlic and chilli.

She then opted for fish pie with carrots, broccoli and French beans, as well as chips, while Matt had the Barefoot home-made burger, which he described as "above average".

The pair concluded their review of their night at the Barefoot on the Beach venture by explaining how it offers "delicious food at modest prices", which could tempt those on Isle of Wight holidays to head to the Colwell venue to take in a meal during their break.

According to the official Facebook page of Barefoot on the Beach, the eatery is a destination restaurant that offers a great choice of food and wines, as well as serving the best coffee available in the west of the Isle of Wight.
