Isle of Wight restaurant 'is a time-tunnel'

Tourists considering Isle of Wight holidays may wish to head to the Northbank Hotel in Seaview after the venue was given a positive review.

Matt and Cat of the Isle of Wight Eating Out Guide visited the location over the festive period for one of its festive lunches and compared it to stepping back in time to the 1970s.

They described the village of Seaview as "Blytonesque", which may convince those who grew up reading Famous Five and Secret Seven books to travel to the destination.

The pair were similarly pleased with the food on offer at the Northbank Hotel, which they said was "presented simply, but wit care and style".

It was noted: "The food was great. Piping hot, plentiful and tasty, it all made for a wholesome and satisfying Sunday lunch."

Matt pointed out his turkey appeared to have been freshly carved, while it came with all the trimmings such as sausage, bacon, stuffing and gravy.

He chose homemade Christmas pudding for his dessert and was also delighted with his choice, highlighting the fact that the meal came with a bowl of "soft, sweet homemade brandy butter, garnished with a glace cherry and angelica" which he said was like "heaven".

The couple concluded they "felt as though they were dining as houseguests of an eccentric and kindly family" as they lounged on sofas in the restaurant after enjoying the rest of their meal at the hotel.

Owners of the Northbank themselves explain staying at the location is just like taking a step back in time on the venue's website.

It was added most of the guests who enjoy their Isle of Wight holidays at the Seaview holiday come back every year to stay in one of the 16 guest rooms as they enjoy the fact the atmosphere does not change at the location.
