Isle of Wight restaurant 'a classy and enjoyable place to dine'

The Priory Bay Hotel has been recommended to those planning Isle of Wight holidays.

According to Matt and Cat of the Isle of Wight Eating Out Guide, the location is a "classy" and "enjoyable" place to go for a meal, as well as a "great" place to stay while on the island.

The pair of reviewers were full of praise for the quality of the destination, as well as the service during their meal, although they criticised the decision to automatically add a 12.5 per cent charge on to the top of the bill.

They explained how they decided to try the tasting menu on their trip to the Priory Bay Hotel, in order to test as many of the dishes as possible.

Six courses are on offer to diners who choose this option, which is priced at £49 per head, while an additional wine flight costs £24.

Local pheasant was one of the dishes on the tasting menu and Matt and Cat described it as "brown and cream, albeit with a coy green hint of Priory garden leeks peeping out from underneath".

They were particularly impressed with the way the meal was put together, noting: "The pace of the dinner was excellent; the staff delivered the courses and cleared the plates with immaculate timing. The crockery was heavy-duty and utilitarian - no informal wooden platters, cheeky asymmetric bowls or artistic slate plates here."

Matt and Cat saved most of their praise for the final course of the evening, the dessert, which was a chocolate fondant in substitute for chocolate praline finger - describing it as "delicious".

The Priory Bay Hotel stands in 70 acres of grounds between Seaview and Bembridge and boasts a raft of leisure facilities, such as a six-hole golf course, private beach, tennis courts and an outdoor swimming pool.
