Isle of Wight pub wins accolade for food

Tourists on Isle of Wight holidays may be tempted to head to a pub on the island that has recently been praised for the quality of the food it serves.

The Taverners in Godshill on the Isle of Wight has been named by the influential travel site TripAdviser as being among the top ten pubs for food in the UK.

It came in at five in the list and was only beaten by the Royal Oak in York, the Chequers in Bath, the Pipe and Glass in South Dalton and the winning entry, the Hand and Flowers in Marlow.

Landlord and chef Roger Serjent told the Isle of Wight County Press he is looking forward to the venue having a busy summer as a result of the accolade from the website.

He noted the reputation of the location has been increasing over the course of the last couple of years and this is going to be another boost for the success of the pub.

"I think there are still a lot of people who will be holidaying in the UK this year and we should be one of the places that benefits from that," he said.

Isle of Wight holidays may be particularly in demand this summer as families look to cut back on their spending due to the ongoing economic uncertainty in the UK.

The Taveners describes itself as a country pub that is popular among visitors to the Isle of Wight and local residents alike, with all of the meat served at the pub from island farms, while other ingredients are sourced locally whenever it is possible to do so.

It serves a wide range of dishes including pub favourites that are sure to whet the appetite of visitors, such as shepherds' pie, prawn cocktail, macaroni cheese, rump steak, beef and ale pie and ham, eggs and chips.
