Homemade bitter available on Isle of Wight

Isle of Wight holidays could be popular among fans of homemade bitter after it was revealed a brew is being released again this autumn following its popularity last year.

Hoppiness was deemed to be a huge success in 2010 and it is hoped the latest incarnation, which has been named Tropic-Ale, will match this on its unveiling this autumn.

Ventnor Botanic Garden will make the drink available in The Royal Garden Cafe and selected local pubs, as well as its own gift shop.

Garden manager Chris Kidd said "This year we have been able to produce a large quantity of the bitter, but we are still expecting it to be in high demand."

He added that tourists on Isle of Wight holidays are likely to be pleased they will be able to take home some of the bitter in bottles for the first time, as this means they will have a souvenir from their break on the island.

"Although how long they will be able to resist opening it is another matter!" pointed out Mr Kidd.

The bottles are available for purchase now after the bitter was launched in an event on Saturday (October 1st) at the Royal Garden Cafe.

In the past, the Isle of Wight was famous for its production of hops and a number of island brews were popular on the mainland, but this has dipped over the course of the last few decades.

But Goddards Brewery is still flying the flag for the island and has many beers available for those who visit the Isle of Wight to check out.

These include the Ale of Wight, Inspiration and Duck's Folly, while the destination also produces many beverages depending on the season.

Winter Warmer will soon be available from the company, with its dried fruit and bitter chocolate malt notes providing the perfect tonic for the cooler months.
