Hairy Bikers visit Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight has been visited by BBC television presenters the Hairy Bikers, who filmed a segment for their latest series on the island.

According to a report by the Isle of Wight County Press, the pair were in Ventnor last night (September 12th) for their Best of British show.

The bikers - Dave Myers and Simon King - had dinner at Phileas Fogg's, with a day on the water with fisherman Mike Curtis planned for today.

Mr Curtis, who runs Bembridge Fish Store with his wife Ruth, went on a trip in the English Channel with the pair fishing for huss.

"They got in touch with us about six weeks ago to arrange a fishing trip. They're catching huss as an alternative to other white fish. It's great exposure for us," Mrs Curtis told the newspaper.

Catherine Bachelor, chef and co-owner of Lockslane Bistro, added huss is one of the most popular dishes on the menu at the location, which serves it in a parsley sauce.

Mark Randerson, of Phileas Fogg's, said: "It was a great night, they really enjoyed themselves and they were great fun. The team were very excited and it's a privilege they chose us, with so many good restaurants around."

It is not yet known when the Hairy Bikers' trip to the Isle of Wight will be shown on television, but it is likely to fuel interest in Isle of Wight holidays, in particular the food available to those who take a break on the island.

Phileas Fogg's is located on the High Street in Ventnor and is one of the most popular restaurants on the Isle of Wight.

It is open for both lunch and dinner, with courses available on the menu including mussels cooked with garlic and shallots, shoulder of lamb cooked in Moroccan spices, Tandoori marinated seabass fillet and Malaysian beef curry.
