Food at Isle of Wight restaurant 'is splendid'
Wed 1 Sep 2010
Tourists taking Isle of Wight holidays this summer have been advised to head to one of the island's restaurants for a "splendid" meal.
According to local restaurant critics Matt and Cat, who write the Isle of Wight Eating Guide, the Fisherman's Cottage at Shanklin Chine enjoys one of the best locations on the island.
The pair pointed out that the eatery's seaside location lends itself well to the menu, as fish collected from the sea around the Isle of Wight often ends up in the kitchen.
Matt told how he was particularly pleased with his steak pie, having opted for the meal on the recommendation of a fellow diner.
"Apologists for the pseudo-pies that some places serve in a ceramic dish with a puff-pastry hat simply don't appreciate the uncomplicated joy of cutting into a pastry crust," he wrote.
Before a visit to the Fisherman's Cottage, tourists on Isle of Wight holidays can spend the day exploring Shanklin Chine itself - which is a local word for gorge.
