Thousands to head to Isle of Wight for Cowes Week

More than 100,000 people are expected to travel to the Isle of Wight for Cowes Week.

The annual sailing event kicks off tomorrow (July 31st 2010), with tourists heading to the island for Cowes Week likely to be keeping their eyes peeled for famous faces during their time on the Isle of Wight.

Among those will be royal horse rider Zara Phillips, former England rugby player Martin Bayfield and Winter Olympic Gold medallist Amy Williams, reports the Isle of Wight County Press.

The highlight of the sailing events during Cowes Week could be the 1851 Cup series, which will be held between Team Origin of Britain - with Olympic champion Ben Ainslie on board - and America's Cup holders BMW-Oracle.

Isle of Wight County Press journalist Clare Newman said: "The starts and finishes are outside the Royal Yacht Squadron, while in the afternoon, the green close to Egypt Point gives a great view of the action."

Cowes Online reports that the weather for the event - which runs until August 7th 2010 - is likely to be fine.
