Cowes Week to kick off from August 3rd

This year's Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week promises to be one of the biggest attractions on the Isle of Wight this year and is set to get underway from August 3rd.

Seven days of nautical fun are to be found for all those heading to this year's event, with upwards of 100,000 spectators and 8,500 active participants expected to be taking part in the festivities in 2013.

The oldest and largest sailing regatta in the world, Cowes Week was founded in 1826 and will this year stage more than 40 races each day for visitors to enjoy and avid sailors to take part in.

Organised by Cowes Combined Clubs, racing in the Solent is not the only draw for the thousands of Isle of Wight visitors during the nautical spectacle.

Indeed, an array of live bands will be performing throughout the week at venues included Cowes Parade, Cowes Yacht Haven, Shephards Wharf Arena, Northwood House and more, while be able to enjoy afternoon tea, a variety of gala lunches and dinners, live broadcasts from Isle of Wight radio and an evening disco at Crazy Larry's Nightclub.

In addition, flying aces the Red Arrows will be taking to the skies above Cowes on Friday August 9th for an aerial display of skill and daring that is sure to have the crowds whooping and cheering with delight.

The show will get underway from 19:30 BST and will be followed by the annual Cowes Week fireworks display, which also promises to be a sight to behold for island visitors and locals alike.

Money raised throughout the event will be pledged to Toe in the Water and this year's Cowes Week aims to inspire service men and women who have been injured in the line of duty to move beyond their injuries and be enthused by life.

Tanya Brookfield, director of Toe in the Water, said: "In our final year as the official charity for Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, we definitely want to go out with a splash. We will be selling our unique range of merchandise and are planning an even bigger and better Crew Party."ADNFCR-3083-ID-801617534-ADNFCR
