Cowes Week 'attracts hundreds of sailors each year'

Hundreds of sailors book Isle of Wight holidays every year in order to coincide with the Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week sailing regatta, which is one of the island's most popular annual events.

According to a report by iwantsun.co.uk that focused on sailing vacations, there is no need to leave the UK in order to enjoy this type of break.

It noted the Isle of Wight could be the ideal place to head to for those who are interested in the activity, with Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week arguably the best time to do so.

This year, the event is set to be held in the coastal town from August 11th to 18th, which is a little earlier in the summer than it usually comes to the island.

The report highlighted some of the UK's best locations to take sailing holidays, noting: "The Solent - the stretch of water separating the south coast of England from the Isle of Wight - is a particular favourite and attracts hundreds of sailors from across the world each year."

Coastline views were described as being "beautiful", while the range of destinations on either side of the Solent is varied.

"The Port Solent base is another place where you can learn the ropes of sailing, so that next time you will feel more confident to charter a yacht independently," it was added by the website.

Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week has been held on the Isle of Wight for close to 200 years and is one of the key events on the UK's sporting calendar, according to its organisers.

Each year, around 1,000 boats take part in up to 40 daily races, with plenty of the action taking place close to the shore, so tourists on Isle of Wight holidays will get a great view.
