Wildlife theme announced for Bestival 2012

Music fans heading to the Isle of Wight this summer in order to attend Bestival will be able to see a show by Orbital during their time on the island.

The dance act have been revealed to be the first group on the line-up for the 2012 and will be headlining the Big Top on the final night of the bash, bringing it to a close in style.

Curator Rob da Bank also announced that the theme for Bestival this year is to be wildlife, with attendees encouraged to dress up as their favourite animals, whether they are foxes, badgers or something a little bit more exotic such as flamingos.

He explained he has been "pestered" a lot by festival fans on social networking site Twitter - as well as in nightclubs and even on the streets - in recent weeks so stated he thought he would kick things off with the first act on the bill.

The Radio 1 DJ added he will be announcing a new act on the line-up of Bestival 2012 on each of the next 12 days to follow in the footsteps of Orbital.

"Legendary brothers of rave Paul and Phil Hartnoll aka Orbital are the first act who have self-announced themselves today ... and what a classic to kick off on," he said.

Film fans could also be tempted to head to the Isle of Wight in order to attend Bestival this summer after it was revealed movies are set to be screened at the event for the first time.

Curator da Bank revealed that he will be performing a brand new score to the 1930s disaster picture King Kong, with a raft of other collaborations soon to be announced.

A new and expanded healing area has also been confirmed by the organiser of the event, which will give revellers the chance to take a step back from the action and enjoy a massage and chill out for a while before returning to the arenas for some more live music.

Hammocks are to be set up for those who want to take a quick snooze in the middle of the day before catching their favourite acts later in the day, while wood-burning Scandinavian hot tubs and a sauna area are also to be set up at this part of the festival site.

Food lovers will not be left out either, as da Bank revealed that the Young British Foodies group are to be in attendance at the event, giving Bestival attendees the chance to sample some of the country's finest cuisine, rather then the usual unhealthy festival grub of burgers and hot dogs.

The event's Bollywood Bar is also getting a makeover from Josie da Bank - wife of the organiser Rob - with the venue set to be decked out in full Indian regalia for the weekend's action.

A brand new location has also been confirmed for Bestival in 2012, with ticketholders able to check out the Grand Palace of Entertainment during their trip to the Isle of Wight.

The organisers of the event noted: "We've cranked up the fun factor with this new venue! Expect twisted cabaret, raucous games and quizzes."

Those who are looking forward to the headliners of Bestival being announced were informed the names are set to be revealed in the middle of the month.

Last year, The Cure were the biggest act to head to the Isle of Wight to perform at the event, with the band being a European exclusive booking and later releasing a double CD of their performance on the island, with all of the proceeds going to charity as a result.
