Stevie Wonder's Bestival show 'breathtaking'

Bestival on the Isle of Wight hosted a special headlining set by Stevie Wonder to bring the event to a close at the weekend and his show has been described as "breathtaking".

According to a review of the festival by the Daily Telegraph, the event was a "musical triumph" that was held under "clear skies and scorching sun".

This made a contrast to the Isle of Wight Festival at the start of the summer, which was blighted by heavy rain and strong winds that made conditions difficult for travellers on the island.

Florence and the Machine were noted to have recovered from the vocal problems that led to the band pulling out of a number of festival commitments on the continent over the course of the summer and the group proved to be one of the highlights of the weekend.

"Her towering vocals drove the band's anthemic yet arty pop," noted the report by the publication, which singled out recent hit Spectrum as one of the highlights of the set by the chart-toppers.

Emeli Sande was another of the female singers to be picked out for praise by the newspaper.

Superstition and Isn't She Lovely were named by the newspaper as among the best moments of Stevie Wonder's set and it was this show that brought the festival to an end late on Sunday (September 9th).

But not everyone was happy with the American star, with Icelandic post-rockers Sigur Ros issuing an apology to their fans after their performance was forced to take place in daylight ahead of Wonder taking to the stage later in the day.

In a statement lamenting their time at the Isle of Wight event, the band said they had been told they would be playing in darkness and had planned a light show to go along with the music.

"A perfect storm of production issues and technical problems conspired to mean that the band went on to have a thoroughly miserable experience on stage too," it read.
