New Order provide 'masterclass' at Bestival

New Order performed a "masterclass" at Bestival on the Isle of Wight, according to a positive review of the event by a national newspaper.

A report by the Independent highlighted the band as one of the top acts to have taken to the stage at Robin Hill Country Park in front of tens of thousands of festival fans.

It noted they were affected by a "slow start" to their set at Bestival on the Isle of Wight, but renditions of classic tracks including Blue Monday and True Faith got the party started.

The newspaper stated these songs sound as fresh today as they did when they first came out and pointed out the group finished their performance on the main stage with a version of the Joy Division track Love Will Tear Us Apart.

Sigur Ros were another of the headline acts to be singled out for praise by the report, which explained they gave a "breathtaking" performance in the sunset slot on the final night.

Although the band later released a statement apologising for the "miserable experience" of their set at Bestival on the Isle of Wight, the newspaper stated their show had "true beauty".

Florence and the Machine also played on the main stage at Bestival last weekend and her "delectable" voice on songs including Rabbit Heart and You've Got the Love was praised.

Stevie Wonder was the last major act to take to the stage on the Isle of Wight at the festival and his set was full of crowd-pleasing numbers including Happy Birthday, which he closed with.

The American musician also used his appearance to speak out in support of US president Barack Obama, who is standing for reelection in November, asking: "We need to rid ourselves of racism and prejudice and hate – he knows about that ... Are y'all with me?"

Bestival curator Rob da Bank has already announced via his Twitter page that he has booked the first major act for next year's event, confirming the group during this summer's festival.
