New dance arena to open at Bestival

Individuals heading to this year's Bestival music festival on the Isle of Wight may be pleased to hear this year's event is set to be bigger and better than ever, with the opening of a new dance arena for festivalgoers.

The Port will boast a state-of-the-art sound system and is fully equipped with a new laser lighting system, LED screens and "a boat load" of pyrotechnics, ensuring revellers will be able to dance the night's away in style.

Festival organiser Rob da Bank commented: "I'm probably more excited about this new stage for Bestival than anything else in the last decade of creating fun and mental spaces for people to party on."

Some of the biggest names on the DJ scene will be performing at The Port - which by the way, is a full-sized replica of a 24-metre ocean-going liner - including Annie Mac, Carl Cox, DJ EZ, The 2 Bears, Jaguar Skills and Bestival favourites Phat Phil Cooper and Russ Cuban, plus many more.

The stage is one of an array of areas and attractions at this year's festival that are sure to capture the imagination of visitors, including a giant fire-breathing spider, the Bollywood Field, the Come Dancing Spiegeltent and a tree which party goers can rave inside of.

Earlier this month, the finalists for this year's best island acts showpiece were announced, with the winners set to perform at Bestival in the autumn.

More than 300 entries were put in for this year's Bestival Island Band, DJ, Choir and Spoken Word Competition, with finalists including  Lucid, The Omhz, The Bear Social and Signals, as well as the Wight Harmony and Ryde School Choristers, Splosh and DJ Longjack, Callum Fairweather, Buddy Carson and Lady Robinson.

The winners will be named at the finals, which take place at Northwood House in May.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801577323-ADNFCR
