Isle of Wight events up for awards

The Isle of Wight Festival and Bestival are among the events to be up for a number of prizes at the UK Festival Awards, which will be given out later in the year.

Both Bestival and the Isle of Wight Festival have been nominated for the best major festival prize, which is open to events attracting more than 40,000 music fans to their site.

Bestival was also named among the weekends up for the prize of best dance event, showing the diversity of the festival, which takes place at Robin Hill Country Park each summer.

The Isle of Wight Festival, which is held at Seaclose Park in Newport, is once more up for the big prize of best major festival after this year's bill featured headline performances from the likes of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Pearl Jam and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Springsteen is among the nominees for the best headline performance of the summer festival season, but the Boss faces competition from the likes of Biffy Clyro, Rihanna, Kasabian, Metallica, Elbow, Ed Sheeran and Public Image Ltd.

Bestival is again competing for honours with the Isle of Wight Festival in this category, with Stevie Wonder among the big names who will be favourites to take home the prize.

Winners will be announced on December 3rd at a ceremony held in London and curator of the Bestival event Rob da Bank urged fans to vote online to help the weekend to scoop awards.

"Hey beautiful people of Bestival and Camp Bestival thanks so much for coming to our shows this year ... and thank the lord for non-stop sunshine at both ... right, now it’s payback time, vote for us and I'll give you a hug at the festival ... go on!" he said.

Tickets are already on sale for next year's Bestival event and the organisers of the festival confirmed that they will be initially frozen at 2012 prices for an early bird period.
