Isle of Wight Council works on Bestival parking plan

The Isle of Wight Council is collaborating with the organisers of the Bestival event in order to make parking on the island smooth for the thousands of revellers.

Earlier in the summer, the Isle of Wight Festival experienced a range of issues as a result of the heavy rain that struck the site in Seaclose Park in Newport.

According to a report by the Isle of Wight County Press, the local authority has responded to this by working with the people behind the September Bestival event to ensure there is no repeat.

In a written question, councillor Jonathan Bacon asked the council what it is doing to make sure there are no parking problems at Robin Hill Country Park when Bestival starts on September 6th.

George Brown, the council member responsible for tourism on the island, stated a wide range of measures are being considered by the authority and the people behind the Bestival event.

The latest Bestival car park management plan is currently being worked on by the organisers of Bestival and individuals at the local authority ahead of the start of the festival in a little over a month's time.

"It includes information on the number of car parks provided, including their size and the total number of parking spaces," said Mr Brown, who added it includes information on how the car parks at Robin Hill Country Park are going to be prepared to avoid a repeat of the happenings at the Isle of Wight Festival in June.

Contingency plans for alternative transport routes from Yarmouth, Ryde and Fishbourne are also going to be put in place by the Isle of Wight Council and the organisers of Bestival.

Bands lined up to play at Bestival on the Isle of Wight this summer include New Order, The xx, Sigur Ros, Stevie Wonder, Bat For Lashers, Spiritualized and Florence and the Machine.
