Bestival tickets close to selling out

With just days to go before the start of Bestival, the organisers of the Isle of Wight event have announced that there are only a few tickets remaining for the festival.

Robin Hill Country Park is hosting the bash from September 6th to 9th and preparations are well underway at the site for the start of the event.

Tens of thousands of revellers are expected to travel to the Isle of Wight in order to attend Bestival next month, with the weekend marking the end of the UK's festival season.

David Icke has revealed today (August 28th) via his website that he will be speaking at Bestival on the Isle of Wight on the Friday afternoon of the festival, which is sure to be a must-see part of the weekend for anyone who is a fan of his work.

According to a report by the Southern Daily Echo, there are fewer than 100 tickets left for the 2012 Bestival, so anyone who has been considering heading to the Isle of Wight for the event will have to move fast to ensure they can secure their place.

Curator of the festival Rob da Bank told the news provider that the atmosphere at the headquarters of Bestival is now "electric" as time ticks by towards the start of the weekend.

"It's been quite a year for festivals, so it's a huge relief to know we're going to sell out for the eighth year running. Massive respect to our faithful Bestivalites for keeping on coming back and also to anyone popping their Bestival cherry this year. Remember to get stuck into the wildlife theme and see you on the isle in a fortnight," he was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

This year has seen many established festivals fail to take place, with some cancelled because of the financial problems of the organisers, others due to poor ticket sales and some weekends falling foul to the bad weather that much of the UK has experienced for a lot of the summer.

Headline acts at Bestival on the Isle of Wight this year include Sigur Ros, Stevie Wonder and New Order, as well as Florence and the Machine.

A report by Grazia magazine singled out a performance by Florence at the event three years ago as one of the best shows to have ever taken place at Bestival on the Isle of Wight.

Last summer's set by Bjork also made it into the top five listed by the fashion and celebrity publication, which noted that the Icelandic star wore "a strange purple plastic hat and with bright orange hair" that made her look like Johnny Depp's character in the recent Alice in Wonderland film by Tim Burton.

Female singers dominated the report by the magazine, with Lily Allen's show in 2009 - for which she was dressed as Barbarella - singled out.

Professor Green appeared live on stage with the Smile popstar before he shot to fame on his own terms and the pair's duet was one of the highlights of the weekend on the Isle of Wight.

The late Amy Winehouse performed at Bestival the summer before and it was noted this was the wettest Bestival on record. The singer was booed off stage by a large crowd.

A vast range of acts will be heading to the Isle of Wight in the coming days in order to perform at this summer's Bestival and they include Bat For Lashes and Two Door Cinema Club.

Others on the bill for the weekend include The xx, Soulwax, Orbital and De La Soul.
