Bestival 'pulled in 46,000' revellers

Some 46,000 people travelled to the Isle of Wight last weekend in order to attend the Bestival music festival.

According to the review of the event in the Telegraph, this was more than has ever attended before and makes it one of the most popular boutique events in the UK.

Barclaycard Mercury prize-winning band The xx were singled out for praise by the reviewer, who stated that fans were forced to stand in adjacent fields to the Big Top in order to attempt to catch a glimpse of the group.

"Already, the prize seems to have tipped them into mainstream territory. They won't be playing support stages for much longer," predicted the newspaper.

It added that Bestival could be set to follow the upwards trajectory of The xx and suggested curator Rob da Bank will have difficulties keeping the Isle of Wight event "cosy".

Those who booked Isle of Wight holidays for Bestival may be tempted to return at the end of next month, after the local council named destinations such as Appuldurcombe House in Wroxall as worth visiting over Halloween.
