Bestival partners with WaterAid

WaterAid has been confirmed as one of the charity partners for Bestival on the Isle of Wight, which is set to be held on the island next month.

Robin Hill Country Park will host acts such as Stevie Wonder, Florence and the Machine and New Order from September 6th to 9th and WaterAid will be present on the site spreading the word of the importance of clean water across the world.

The Big Dig appeal is the current focus of the organisation and this is a scheme that aims to help thousands of people in Malawi gain access to safe water and sanitation.

WaterAid will have a stand in between the Grassy Hill and Wishing Tree field, it was revealed by the organisers of Bestival on the Isle of Wight.

"Bestival is a fantastic event and we're excited to be part of it,’ said WaterAid's Anna McGuire, senior events fundraising officer for the charity.

She added: "We will be getting into the spirit of the festival whilst spreading the word of our vital work. People only need to donate a little bit of money to make a big difference as every donation we receive will be match-funded by the Department for International Development."

Ms McGuire noted it is a big chance for individuals on the Isle of Wight to make a major difference to the lives of people in Malawi who do not have access to clean water.

Bestival curator Rob da Bank added those behind the event are "thrilled" to be able to announce the new partnership with WaterAid, pointing out that getting the water and sanitation facilities right at a festival are "absolutely paramount".

The xx, Sigur Ros, Bat For Lashes, Friendly Fires, Justice and Emeli Sande are set to play at the Isle of Wight event next month, although Frank Ocean has pulled out of performing at the festival for the second year in a row.
