Bestival named among UK's best value events

Music fans wanting to get good value for money for the events they go to this summer could pick up a ticket for Bestival on the Isle of Wight after it was named in the top three UK weekends.

According to research conducted by VoucherCodes.co.uk, in terms of the amount of money it would cost to go to see each headline act, Scotland's T in the Park event offers the top value for money, even though it is the most expensive to go to at £199 for a ticket.

The Cure, Kasabian, Florence & the Machine, The Black Keys and the Foo Fighters are performing at the Balado bash later in the summer and the figures show it would cost almost £500 to go to see each of the acts on tour.

Bestival was the second best festival in the UK in terms of value for money, with tickets priced by the organisers at £180 for the weekend.

But the cost of seeing each of the top acts that will be taking to the stage at Robin Hill Country Park in September was £442, meaning revellers will be saving almost £250 by going to the event to see bands such as Sigur Ros, New Order, Hot Chip, The Horrors and Stevie Wonder.

Duncan Jennings, co-founder of VoucherCodes.co.uk, said: "Despite the hefty price tags, festivals are still excellent value for money and a great chance to see some of the world's best artists at a knock-down price."

He added: "It's also worth noting that the poor weather has hit ticket sales this year and many events are still not sold out."

The Isle of Wight Festival - which took place last month - came in third with acts such as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Pearl Jam and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band costing fans £437, compared with a ticket price of £190.

Festival curator John Giddings has told NME he wants to book Oasis and Blur for a future Isle of Wight Festival.
