Bestival headline act 'the most inventive pop star around'

Revellers getting ready to head to the Isle of Wight for this weekend's (September 8th-11th) Bestival event can look forward to seeing one of the world's most inventive pop stars during their time on the island.

Curators of the festival Josie and Rob da Bank explained they have been attempting to book Icelandic star Bjork and British rock group The Cure for a number of years and have finally succeeded in doing so for the 2011 bash.

Speaking to the Guardian, Radio 1 DJ Rob explained how he believes Bjork has always been "one step ahead" of her peers.

"I've no idea exactly that she's going to do. Apparently, at quite a few gigs she doesn't even know herself what she's going to do, song-wise, until the actual day. It's very exciting," he said.

The curator added that he travelled to see the star perform her new Biophilia show in Manchester earlier in the summer but that was an indoors performance so will be different to her headline slot at Bestival.

He also explained how he has been in touch with the lead singer of The Cure Robert Smith for a number of years about booking them to play on the Isle of Wight at Bestival.

Rob and Josie added they are hoping more people get into the spirit of the occasion this weekend and dress up, noting their disappointment that only around half of the revellers did so last year.

The Village People will be judging the event, with the best Rock Stars, Pop Stars and Divas in line to win a prize.

But revellers heading to the Isle of Wight may also need to ensure their costumes are waterproof, due to the stormy weather expected to hit the site this weekend.

A spokesperson for the event confirmed the planning schedule for the festival has been hit by wind and rain, but there is not expected to be a delay in opening the campsite tomorrow.
