Bestival bosses 'thrilled' with award win

Organisers of the Isle of Wight event Bestival are celebrating after the bash was named Fans' Favourite Festival Award at a ceremony.

Curator of Bestival Rob da Bank stated the event is lucky to have picked up a number of prizes at the UK Festival Awards over the last few years.

However, he argued this is the best one to have been collected by the Isle of Wight showpiece, due to the fact that it is voted by fans who go to festivals around the UK.

The Radio 1 DJ said: "The Bestival crowd are the best party crowd ever and we can't thank them enough for supporting us year after year."

He added the organisers of the Isle of Wight bash will be working harder than ever before to put on a great show in 2012 in order to pay the fans back for handing them the award.

This year saw headline performances from the likes of The Cure, Bjork and Pendulum, with da Bank facing a hard task to better the sets from these acts in the 2012 event.

PJ Harvey, Brian Wilson, Public Enemy, The Village People, Metronomy and DJ Shadow were among the other acts to take to the stage over the course of the weekend, alongside names including Primal Scream, The Maccabees, Fatboy Slim, Joy Orbison and Kelis.

Early bird tickets are already on sale for Bestival on the Isle of Wight in 2012 at a discounted rate, even though the organisers have not announced any bands who will be playing.

The event is set to take place from September 9th to 12th next year and will be competing with the Isle of Wight Festival that is held earlier in the summer and has already confirmed the booking of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

Curator John Giddings described it as a "phenomenal" coup for the festival.
