Bestival boss 'would love to book The Stone Roses'

The curator of Isle of Wight music event Bestival has admitted that he would love to book The Stone Roses to play at the event next summer.

Writing on Twitter to his 33,000 followers, Rob da Bank was commenting on the news that the Manchester band is set to reform and play a world tour next year.

A pair of dates have already been confirmed for Heaton Park in Manchester at the end of June and shows all over the globe are set to follow.

Speculation is already rife they may play festival shows in the UK and across Europe next summer, following in the footsteps of acts such as Blur and Pulp who have reunited recently.

But the Radio 1 DJ and Bestival head admitted that he has little chance of being able to persuade The Stone Roses to head to the Isle of Wight for a show.

However, as Bestival has managed to land coups such as The Cure - an exclusive European booking for the event - as well as Bjork in the last 12 months, fans will still be hoping they get to see the men behind tracks such as She Bangs the Drums and I Am the Resurrection.

The Stone Roses only released two albums and split up 15 years ago in acrimonious circumstances, with guitarist John Squire once stating that he had no intention of rejoining.

Singer Ian Brown went on to enjoy some success with a solo career, while Mani went on to join Primal Scream and has played with the band for the last decade.

But the foursome have come back together and are planning to work on new material as part of the reunion, which gets underway on Friday (October 21st), when tickets for the two shows at Heaton Park go on sale priced at £55.
