Bestival attendees urged to bike to Isle of Wight

Music lovers looking forward to travelling to the Isle of Wight this summer in order to attend Bestival have been urged to volunteer for a bike ride to the event from London.

Bike to Bestival will start in the capital on September 4th and will take in a section of the road route of the Olympic Games, which is being hosted in the city the month beforehand.

Novices and experienced riders alike are being encouraged to come forward and volunteer to try to cycle to the Isle of Wight in time for the start of the festival, which is being headlined by Iceland's post-rock band Sigur Ros, among a wide range of musical acts.

Money is being raised for Cancer Research UK through the trip, so organisers are hoping as many people as possible will bike to Bestival to drum up more support for the charity.

"After the Olympic route has been pleasantly peddled upon, it’s off to a country pub for an overnight stop where there will be a fun gig where you could join in ... or just sit down and sink a few well deserved ales," they noted, while the final part of the trip will be a ferry crossing to the Isle of Wight followed by a pre-Bestival warm-up party on the island.

Bestival itself was described as being as "uproarious weekend of frivolity and good times", with acts such as Friendly Fires and The xx confirmed as being on the bill of the event, along with names like New Order, Two Door Cinema Club, Soulwax, Hot Chip and Justice.

De La Soul, Orbital, Emeli Sande, Sister Sledge, Spiritualised, Warpaint and Death in Vegas will also be entertaining those on Isle of Wight holidays at Bestival this September, with more big names to be announced by curator Rob da Bank in the coming weeks and months.
