Bestival aims to be greener than ever
Wed 25 Aug 2010
Revellers taking Isle of Wight holidays next month in order to attend the Bestival music festival can be assured they are doing their bit to help the environment.
That is because Bestival - after being labelled outstanding at the Greener Festival Awards last year - is pulling out all the stops for the 2010 event, reports the Daily Echo.
It noted that one of the stages at the festival, the Plugged In Bandstand Stage, will only use energy produced from solar panels provided by Southern Electric.
"The surrounding area will become a version of Tomorrow's World - envisaging an inspired, sustainable, green and fun future," said the news provider.
It added that much of the energy used during the event - which gets underway on September 9th 2010 - will be produced from used cooking oil which was collected at the 2009 event from food stalls.
This year's event runs until September 12th and features performances from the likes of Dizzee Rascal, The Flaming Lips, The xx, Hot Chip and Ellie Goulding.
