Myths and Legends on the Isle of Wight

If you only attend one event as part of the Isle of Arts Festival taking place on the Isle of Wight this spring, make sure it's Sue Bailey's fascinating talk on the stories and monomyth that embroil this fascinating place.

Entitled Myths and Legends of the Isle of Wight, the talk endeavours to answer such questions as, 'Why is the Isle of Wight so called?', 'Why did King Charles 1’s ill-fated attempt to escape from Carisbrooke Castle fail?' and 'What caused the Royal George to sink on a still day in the Solent?'

"I love stories, and the ideas and images they can convey and I believe there is an important place for oral storytelling, alongside reading, in our culture," Ms Bailey says of the event, which will apparently entertain attendees of all ages.

If this has piqued your interest, come along and find out about the myriad myths, legends and stories that are attached to the wonderful and historic Isle of Wight. It's happening May 5th at 3pm at Ventnor Library. Tickets are priced at £5.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801707927-ADNFCR
