Located on the UK South Coast, Southampton is the gateway to the Isle of Wight and is easily accessible from all parts of the country by road (Check out 'Travel Links...' for more road travel information).

From the Midlands and the North: use the M6 or A1/M1, M42, M40 and A34 links or alternatively M6 and M1, M25, M3 to Jct 14, A33 to City Centre and Waterfront

From Wales and Avon: use the M4 to Jct 13, A34, M3 to Jct 14, A33 to City Centre and Waterfront or M4 to Jct 18, A46, A36, M27, M271 to City Centre and Waterfront

From London, Heathrow, Essex, East Anglia: take the M25 or A316 and join the M3 motorway south to Jct 14, A33 to City Centre and Waterfront

From Gatwick Airport & Channel ports: take the M23 or M20 as appropriate, M25, M3 south to Jct 14, A33 to City Centre and Waterfront

From the South East: take the A27 or A272, or A3M, M27 to Jct 5 and follow signs to City Centre and Waterfront

From the South West: take M5, A30 or A358, A303, A36, M27 to Jct 5 and follow signs to City Centre and Waterfront
 
Arriving by train, Southampton Central is served by rail services from all parts of the UK, from where the free CityLink shuttle bus will drop you outside either Red Funnel terminal (Check out 'Travel Links..' for rail travel information or call National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484950).

From London; South West Trains operate frequent services between Waterloo (via Clapham Jct, Woking, Basingstoke, Winchester, Southampton Airport) and Southampton Central taking a little over an hour. Convenient connections, including Eurostar services to and from Brussels, Paris and Lille, are available at London Waterloo.

Virgin Cross Country Trains operate from Scotland, the North, Midlands and Birmingham; Wessex Passenger Trains run from South Wales through Bristol and Salisbury; South West Trains run services from Weymouth, Poole and Bournemouth and Connex provide services to Portsmouth and Brighton.
 
National Express (Tel. 08705 808080) operate an extensive UK coach service from Southampton Coach Station (near the rail station). There are regular coach services to Heathrow, Central London, Brighton, Bournemouth, Exeter, Plymouth, Penzance, Salisbury, Bath, Bristol, Oxford, Birmingham, Stoke on Trent, Liverpool, Sheffield and the North.

First Southampton (Tel. 023 8022 4854), Solent Blue Line (023 8022 6235) and Wilts & Dorset (01722 336855) offer frequent local and regional bus services. Direct services are offered to local attractions, including Marwell Zoo. Integrated ticketing is now available on many routes. (Check out 'Travel Links..' for more bus/coach travel information).
 
A Rail-Air link provides a useful coach connection between Heathrow and Woking Rail Station, from where a frequent rail service operates to Southampton. Connex operate services from Gatwick Airport to Southampton (direct or via Clapham Jct). From Luton or Stansted Airports catch a train into London and make your way to London Waterloo station for services to Southampton.

Southampton Airport is served by trains operating between London Waterloo and Southampton Central. If arriving at Bournemouth Airport there are direct trains between Bournemouth and Southampton.

Southampton International Airport (Tel +44 (0) 23 8062 0021) has internal flights from Aberdeen, Alderney, Belfast City, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Guernsey, Isles of Scilly, Jersey, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Newquay. European services operate to/from Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Dublin, Geneva, Milan, Nice, Paris with international links from key European hubs. Holiday destinations include, Alicante, Ibiza, Majorca, Malaga, Malta, Minorca, Neapolitan Riviera, Sardinia and Tenerife.

The airport has excellent road and rail connections. Catch any westbound train to Southampton Central or bus service 101 which stops at Southampton City Centre.

Southampton has two main cruise ship berths, the Cunard Terminal in the Eastern Docks and the Mayflower Terminal in the Western Docks. Both are beyond walking distance (with luggage) to Red Funnel's Terminal 1 or 2, so it's recommended that passengers use a taxi.

Other ferries serving the port are operated by White Horse Ferries between Hythe on the Western Shore and Southampton's Town Quay.
