Dust down your dancing shoes and dig out a vintage 1940s dress and you’ll be ready for the Oh So Vintage charity tea dance at Northwood House on Sunday February 26th.
Organised by Oh So Vintage in Carisbrooke High Street, the tea dance will be led by the ‘Now That’s Jive’ dance troupe from Southampton who will also be getting everyone in the mood by staging displays and giving lessons in the various different dance styles of the 40s era.
The Vintage Hair Lounge will be on hand to style your hair and make-up to match the era in their pop-up 40s salon – only £15 for each or £25 for both. And if you’re stuck for a dress to wear there are several shops to find one such as Suze’s Room in Ventnor, Yesterday in Newport and of course Oh So Vintage in Carisbrooke High Street who are organising this wonderful event.
“All the proceeds go to Diabetes Research for Dr Baksi who is based at Mary’s,” said Wendy Levett of Oh so Vintage. “My husband was diagnosed and we wanted to do something. Lots of people are making cakes for us all over the Island and people are donating raffle prizes.
“Dress is 40s style if you want to but it’s not compulsory and ‘Now That’s Jive’ will give instruction of dances such as ‘strolling’. You don’t need a partner for a lot of the dances and it’s not just jive – it’s everything. And if you haven’t got a partner, members of the troupe will wiz you around the dance floor.”
From 2pm until 6pm on Sunday the 26th February, tickets are a very reasonable £10, which includes tea and cakes. There is ample car parking in the large Northwood House car park on the main road into Cowes. For more information call 01983 247688.
