Set in a Victorian Chemists on the seafront in Ryde, the Isle of Wight’s Chocolate Apothecary has created a deliciously appealing atmosphere.
From the beautiful wooden glazed cabinets to the coffee bean shadow boxed table tops, Chocolate Apothecary has become a bench mark for the pride of Ryde. Historians will love this place!
The chocolate shop has been lovingly restored and maintains many character features such as the chemists’ original apothecary drawers labelled in gold leaf, with many Latin words for the herbs and remedies of that time.
Offering their own hand made chocolates and desserts along with myriad of specialty coffees, real drinking chocolate and tea infusions, Chocolate Apothecary has something for everyone. They’ve even introduced a savoury chilli made with their 72% Cacao Tanzanie Chocolate!
Word travels fast here on the Island and before long they were selling to numerous outlets. Following several years in the wholesale side of business, they embarked on a retail shop located on the sea front in Ryde.
Now Chocolate Apothecary is run by family and close friends. “Its popularity has barrelled us over!” said Sue. “It’s such a delight to see our regulars as well as new folks who’ve been told about us. We make everything in our shop kitchen on the premises and have a dedicated team who genuinely strive for the best. We have a great deal of pride in what we do and I’d like to think it shows through.”
Not only does Sue fill the shop with delicious chocolates she also supplies Briddlesford Lodge Farm shop, Brading Roman Villa, Made On the Isle of Wight, IW Steam Railway and makes special garlic flavoured chocolate for the Garlic Farm and lavender flavoured truffles and fondants for Isle of Wight Lavender. If you want something individual for a celebration or someone special the Chocolate Apothecary can make you chocolate delicacies to order.
