Bonchurch, Isle of Wight
About Bonchurch
Situated on the south-east coast of the Isle of Wight, the quiet village of Bonchurch is one of the oldest settlements on the Island. It was a popular, upmarket vacation resort in the Victorian era, with such distinguished guests as Charles Dickens, who wrote several chapters of 'David Copperfield' whilst staying in the village.
A quintessentially English village with quaint cottages and a small selection of village shops, Bonchurch nestles below the stunning St. Boniface Down, the highest point on the Island.
There is a safe shingle/sand beach with rockpools where the kids can splash and search for crabs and other small fish whilst the seafront hosts a number of cafes and small restuarants offering local seafood specialities. The village also has a large pond full of fish and ducks, who are always grateful for bread from obliging visitors.
