The George Hotel Yarmouth
Food Lovers Guide contd...
The Taste of Summer
For slow food inspired by the colours, textures and tastes of a perfect Italian summer, head for the historic quayside George Hotel in Yarmouth. José Graziosi - the ebullient former protégée of Rick Stein - cooks colourful brasserie style food inspired by his Italian childhood.
Relax in the chic, atmospheric dining room and gaze out over the twinkling Solent enjoying a menu which presents summer on a plate. Highlights include a salad of blood oranges, artichokes and pine nuts; followed by roast Cornish monkfish; or succulent pink spring lamb from New Barn Farm, served with a garland of local asparagus, pea shoots and garlic flowers foraged by the chefs on their way to work.
The freshest, local food in season
José Graziosi’s grandmother taught him to appreciate the freshest, local food in season and his food has a vibrant, honest simplicity, which is hard to beat.
In previous years, the George had a reputation for being expensive, so the restaurant now offers a two or three-course fixed price menu.
José is joined in the kitchen by Tyler Torrence former head chef at The Sentry Mead in Totland. Tyler has a following for his confident, Asian-inspired cooking and for championing local and organic ingredients.
