Martin Creed : ARTIST ROOMS On Tour, 13 June - 20 September

13 June - 20 September - Exhibition at Quay Arts

FREE (suitable for under 18s)

Friday 13th June - Saturday 20th September 2014, The West Gallery, Quay Arts.

This summer, Quay Arts invites visitors to explore work by Turner Prize winning artist and musician Martin Creed. The exhibition will show eight signature pieces by Creed, who won the Turner Prize in 2001 for his controversial Work No.227 The lights going on and off. Creed’s work often surprises and challenges us on the nature of contemporary art and twists our expectations with humour, repetition and, often, impulsive works. He is renowned for his straightforward approach to making art, often using simple materials to create sculptures, installations, drawings, films, music and text.

The works on display are taken from ARTIST ROOMS, an inspirational collection of modern and contemporary art acquired for the nation by Tate and The National Galleries of Scotland through the generosity of Anthony d'Offay with additional support from funders, including the Art Fund. The ARTIST ROOMS tour programme, now in its sixth year, is showing at 18 museums and galleries across the UK in 2014. The tour is made possible thanks to the support of Arts Council England and the Art Fund.

Through Quay Arts’ involvement in the internationally renowned IW Music Festival, Creed’s work will have the opportunity to touch new audiences through his music as well as his visual art.

Quay Arts have also been able to borrow a wall painting, Work No. 1340 from the artist and Hauser & Wirth, which has been created in the gallery by Young Quay based on a detailed set of instructions written by Martin which form the work. Young Quay are Quay Arts’ youth group (ages 14-17) who have been working closely with Quay Arts’ Visual Arts Team to explore and investigate Creed’s work, as well as having the opportunity to visit Creed’s recent retrospective at the Hayward Gallery on London’s South Bank earlier this year.

Chris Packham Wildlife Photography, 5 July - 28 September

5 July - 28 September - Exhibition at Dimbola Museums and Galleries

Chris Packham is a lifelong naturalist and works as a television presenter, author and photographer.

He trained as a zoologist and is a passionate campaigning conservationist who has travelled widely around the world, documenting his journeys photographically since the mid 1980s.

His wildlife photography shuns straightforward illustration and is instead intent on making pictures which are more artistic or imaginative and which show his unique vision.

He is an intensely self critical perfectionist who finds scant satisfaction in his own images but he continues to try to make beautiful things from the beauty he searches for.

Exhibition runs 5th July - 28th September. Dimbola is open Mon-Sun, 10am-5pm.
