Festival of the Sea
Festival of the Sea 22 June-05 July 2015
The Isle of Wight's new Festival of the Sea takes place across the Island from Monday 22nd June until Sunday 5th July 2015. There will be a wide range of activities, promotions and events – all revolving around the theme of the sea. With everything from seafood feasts, shakespeare plays and cruises to tree climbing, sailing and tours, you'll find something for all the family.
This year's Festival of the Sea will be headlined by the Round the Island Race, a massive yacht race featuring some of the biggest names in sailing and often considered to be the "London Marathon" of sailing. Other events will include musical events, cookery displays and food-tasting, opportunities to charter boats, open days, tours and talks, all with a fantastic seaside theme.
Shipwreck Isle will take place at Appley Beach in Ryde on Sunday 28th June with a full programme of activities centred on and around the beach. Seafront events will include stunt action sword-fighting, historical re-enactments, cannon and firearm demonstrations - and the “Pirates of the Caribbean Europe Group” who will be out in force with their Caribbean Village on the beach. Other anticipated events are a pirate procession, sand-sculpting workshops, pirate storytelling, a children’s treasure hunt and much more. The use of typical pirate-speak like “Ahoy” and “Arrr...me hearties” is also actively encouraged
Hope Beach in Shanklin is the chosen location for the Festival of the Sea finale. The “All at Sea” beach festival on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July celebrates the best of the seaside with a weekend of high jinks. Expect a Birdman contest, Cardboard Boat race, along with children’s seaside entertainment and fun for all the family.
