Garlic Festival August 2008
The Isle of Wight is the place to be for garlic lovers in August with the annual Garlic Festival taking place at the showground in the tiny village of Newchurch. First organised in 1983, this two-day festival has since grown to become one of the largest foodie events on the Island. No fewer than 25,000 people attend each year to sample the locally grown garlic as well as the festival ambiance. Book accommodation with Red Funnel Holidays at www.redfunnelholidays.co.uk . Stay at the Orchardcroft Hotel, near Newchurch from £50 per night including ferry travel.

Bestival   5 – 7 September
Forget your usual music festival, Bestival is the funkiest festival of the summer. The award winning three-day music festival  takes place at Robin Hill - a beautiful leafy country park near Downend and Newport in the heart of the Island. Since its inception in 2004, Bestival has quickly become one of the hottest music festivals worldwide, winning several awards including  Best Medium Sized Festival Award at the UK Festival Awards in 2007. The line-up is the most eclectic you’ll ever experience (last year’s acts ranged from Billy Bragg to the Beastie Boys), and the campsite experience, complete with fancy dress carnival and Morris dancing, makes this a truly unique festival.
