Red Funnel launches "Steam Coffee Company"
Red Funnel, the original Isle of Wight ferry company, has launched the Steam Coffee Company onboard its three vehicle ferries, Red Eagle, Red Falcon and Red Osprey. The move comes after extensive research showed that quality was key to its customers.
The launch of Steam is part of Red Funnel’s £200,000 investment into onboard food, beverage and retail, which is taking place over the next 18 months.
Murray Carter, Head of Food, Beverage and Retail, says, “ We were selling half a million cups of coffee per year on our vessels and so we understand that it is an important part of our customers’ experience. The facilities we had were simply not meeting demand or our customers’ expectations. In the first week of operation we have sold 20,000 cups of coffee across the vehicle ferry fleet which is an excellent start.”
The initial work in the 18 month project will focus on improving the product offering and refreshments onboard the vehicle ferries – with the introduction of Steam soon to be followed by a new bar area serving a wider choice of drinks. Further plans include the refurbishment of the food area, with new types of hot and cold food available. There are also plans to upgrade the facilities on offer at the Southampton Terminals in 2007.
