Red Osprey's return to service coincides with Queen Mary 2
Red Funnel, the original Isle of Wight ferry operator, is re-introducing the Red Osprey in to service on 8 January after the completion of the stretch work. The work is part of a long-term investment programme. By adding an extra deck to the Red Osprey, then to the Red Falcon, capacity will be increased to meet consumer demand allowing an extra 80 vehicles on each ferry.
To celebrate the return of the Red Osprey from Poland, where the work was carried out, Red Funnel is running a special crossing that gives passengers excellent views of the Queen Mary 2 as she starts her maiden passenger voyage. The Red Osprey will depart from Southampton at 1745 on Monday 12 January and will arrive back in Southampton at 2015. The crossing costs £20 per person and includes half a bottle of wine so passengers can toast the largest and most luxurious cruise liner ever built, as the fireworks explode over the Solent. The child price is £10.
The Red Falcon leaves for Poland to be stretched on 7 January and is expected back in Southampton in April and to be in service by Easter 2004. Other changes to next year’s service include the new hourly timetable for ferry crossings from 13 February 2004.
