Later Red Jet Sailings announced

17 November 2014 – People travelling to and from the Isle of Wight this winter are set to receive a boost as later sailings mean more time to have festive fun on both sides of the water. Shoppers, theatregoers and Christmas party revellers are just some of the people who will benefit from the later Red Jet sailing times from 1-23 and 29-30 December.

Starting from 1st December 2014 the following changes will apply: -

From Southampton

  • 21:45 will depart at 22:00 (a.22:25, connects with 22:29 or 22:44 Service 1 bus to Newport)
  • 22:45 will depart at 23:00 (a.23:25, connects with 23:29 or 23:44 Service 1 bus to Newport).

From West Cowes

  • 22:15 will depart at 22:30 (a.22:55)
  • 23:15 will depart at 23:30 (a.23:55).

The timetable Friday to Sunday will remain unchanged, there is already a later sailing from Southampton at 23:45 on Fridays and Saturdays and from West Cowes at 00:15 on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Monday to Thursday changes will give Mayflower theatregoers additional time to catch a Red Jet back to the Island and will benefit Christmas shoppers visiting Southampton, Winchester or London. The new later times connect (via taxi in Southampton) with South West Trains 20:35 and 21:35 departures from London Waterloo and with Southern Vectis bus services (Route 1) between Cowes and Newport.

Jonathan Green, Marketing and Communications Director, commented “Although the late night Red Jet timetable will be slightly different Monday to Thursday compared to Friday to Sunday, customer feedback suggests it will benefit a wide range of Islanders and their friends and family who visit from the mainland. If the trial proves popular with customers we hope to make the change permanent in the 2015 timetable”.

Andrew Turner, MP for the Isle of Wight, said: “I am encouraged that Red Funnel are trialling changes to their timetabled services in response to public feedback and I‘m also pleased they will be listening to the actual experiences of their customers before making these changes permanent.  The connecting buses into Newport will also be important for many people.  I very much welcome this initiative.”
