Red Funnel and Hythe Ferry Join Forces

Red Funnel and Hythe Ferry join forces to offer through fares to/from the Isle of Wight

Red Funnel Ferries, the Isle of Wight specialist and Hythe Ferry have published an integrated timetable and announced through-tickets for leisure visitors from Hythe, Waterside and the New Forest to West and East Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

The average journey time from Hythe Pier to West Cowes is just 58 minutes, changing at Terminal 2 on Southampton’s Town Quay. There are 23 connecting services per day Monday-Friday, 26 on Saturdays and 9 on Sundays and Public Holidays so there is plenty of choice for leisure travellers.

The new Day Return adult through-fares are 27% cheaper than the price of separate tickets. Adults fares are just £14.70, seniors £11.00, children £7.40, infants are FREE and family tickets (2+2) are £37.00.

The journey starts with an historic train ride along Hythe Pier followed by a sedate 12 minute ferry ride to Southampton affording a bird’s eye view of visiting cruise ships and merchant vessels.  After changing ferries on Town Quay in Southampton, visitors get to fly across the Solent to Cowes in 23 minutes aboard a Red Jet catamaran.

Sath Naidoo from Hythe Ferry commented “We are excited to be working with Red Funnel to promote Hythe as a gateway to the Isle of Wight. The town’s large car parks with affordable long-stay charges makes Hythe an ideal starting point for an Isle of Wight day visit or overnight stay. The Island has an excellent bus service and with cycle and car hire options in West Cowes, travelling there by public transport has never been easier”.

Jonathan Green, Red Funnel’s Sales & Marketing Director commented “By integrating the two timetables and offering affordable fares we hope Hythe and Waterside residents, together with visitors to the New Forest, will be able to explore Cowes, the spiritual home of yacht racing. Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s much–loved country home is also within easy reach as are the Island’s other attractions, award-winning events and beautiful countryside”.

The Isle of Wight, the dinosaur capital of Great Britain, has opened a new attraction to celebrate ‘Walking with Dinosaurs: The 3D Movie’ - set for global release in December 2013. The new Walking with Dinosaurs trail along the Island’s southern coast features 6 meteorites. Each one gives visitors the chance to be photographed standing alongside a different dinosaur in the very place they were discovered thanks to a FREE augmented reality app which is available for Apple and Android tablets and smartphones.*

A new Dinosaur Trail bus service will operate during the summer holidays, stopping off at each meteorite between Yaverland (Nr. Sandown) and The Needles – it can even carry bikes on the lower deck.

The new through-fares from Hythe to the Isle of Wight are available from 24 June 2013 and can be purchased on departure from the Hythe Ferry ticket office, Hythe. Timetables and more details are available from www.redfunnel.co.uk/hythe and from www.hytheferry.co.uk
