Engineer Officer VAC123
Working, as an integral part of our on-board maintenance team, responsible for the operation and maintenance of propulsion and auxiliary machinery, together with all Technical onboard systems. Other duties will include the maintenance of galley and passenger services equipment, fabric maintenance of machinery spaces and receipt of fuel oil and lubricating oil bunkers. In addition the successful candidates will be expected to assist the deck crew with the operation of the hydraulic equipment associated with loading practices.
You will need to demonstrate a record of watchkeeping with relevant certification as well as recent seagoing experience; you should have a good working knowledge of the maintenance requirements of medium/hi-speed diesels and their associated electro-hydraulic systems. You must also be able diagnose and rectify faults in a wide range of machinery, including computer controlled propulsion systems.
The successful candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with the ability to work under pressure, whilst maintaining a high degree of concentration and care. An ability to deal with difficult individuals in a polite, friendly, yet firm manner would be advantageous. He /she will also need to demonstrate proficient computer skills.
Hours are based on 42 per week working a rostered shift system covering a 24-hour operation over 7 days per week. Hence a requirement to reside in the local area is a must as there is no accommodation offered on-board.
